Amref Health Africa
Amref Health Africa is the largest African health organization that promotes health projects in the most isolated areas of the continent.
To improve the health of Africa it is essential to protect mothers and children, fight endemic diseases and pandemics, provide access to clean water, train health workers and strengthen public health services.
This is the work that we have been carrying out for over 60 years and that we must continue today - now more than ever. We have been committed to supporting Africa through the Covid-19 emergency from the beginning, in an attempt to prevent the epidemic from spreading with devastating consequences.
The fragile African health systems are unable to cope with the crisis where, for example, in South Sudan there are no intensive care beds. In addition, over the coming months the economic effects of the lockdown will be felt by hundreds of thousands of people who will fall into a state of poverty. As a result illness will also increase, particularly conditions related to malnutrition.
Amref Health Africa is at the forefront to help flatten the curve in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia, by training frontline health workers and strengthening testing and tracing processes. Amref is committed to ensuring that healthcare professionals can work more effectively and safely and that all communities, including the most remote and most difficult to reach, are supported, informed and cared for. We won't leave anyone behind.
