Goalball UK
Goalball UK exists to transform the lives of blind and partially sighted people in the UK.
Our vision is to maximise opportunities for blind and partially sighted people, enabling people to have full and active lives.
We aim to empower people through goalball, a Paralympic sport accessible to all abilities and ages, played by blindfolded players in a team game format with fully trained coaches.
We are also proud to be the National Governing Body of goalball in the UK.
Goalball is the Paralympic sport for blind and partially sighted athletes, played by two teams of three players each. The aim of the game is to throw a ball into the opponents' net whilst defending teammates attempt to block both directions of attack whilst wearing eyeshades.
The sport was originally devised in 1946 to help rehabilitate soldiers who had lost their sight during the war. It has been played throughout the world ever since, at the highest level, by people who are blind or partially sighted.
