Altra Napoli
Altra Napoli is a non-profit organization founded in October 2005 by a group of Neapolitans who, although living elsewhere, have decided to commit themselves to the revitalization of their city by dedicating themselves specifically to its most run-down areas.
During these 18 years have been realized more than 50 projects involving 1,000 young people that have created over 100 jobs. Thanks to the generosity of many companies and private institutions, Altra Napoli has collected and invested about 9 milion euros in a great urban revitalization project, both artistic and social, for the Sanità District, which has been expanded to include Forcella.
Among the main projects we can mention: the renovation of the Catacombs of San Gennaro, the creation of two youth orchestras inspired by the experience of the Venezuelan master José Abreu: "Sanitansamble" and "Piccola Orchestra di Forcella", the birth of the "La Casa di Vetro" a large multipurpose space for children, the renovation of the “Church of the Discipline of the Holy Cross” and the creation of the House of Music, home of the youth orchestra "Little Orchestra of Forcella"
Since 2006, the project in the Sanità District has been supported by the Clinton Global Initiative.
Our objectives:
- Develop projects of urban revitalization in the run-down areas of Naples aimed at improving the quality of life of its residents and to give its young people opportunities for cultural and sociali growth.
- Create social business projects through youth cooperatives.
- Nurture the talent of children thorough education, music and theater.
