Parrocchia di "S. Gioachimo"

The Catholic church of San Gioachimo is among the oldest buildings currently located within the area of the city of Milan called Porta Nuova. Its dimensions make it almost disappear in comparison with the very modern buildings that now largely surround it, but its history and the quality of its interiors make it a "protagonist" of the life of the neighborhood.

The church was built for spiritual assistance to the numerous families of workers who gathered in this peripheral area, at that time located outside the railway station, where important industrial and business activities were developing.

Although in a different way compared to its beginnings (1885), even now it carries out the mission of helping to "give a soul" to the neighborhood, which could run the risk of being a collection of buildings and, above all, of men and women exclusively dedicated to thinking about the material conditions of human existence.

Today, this area is almost central to the city, characterized by important new corporate, commercial and housing premises, and on the other hand also by a significant presence of homeless and excluded. Again, these people need a help, both spiritual and cultural, and in some cases even material (the parish carries out an abundant charitable activity).

We are currently engaged in the restoration of the internal decorations of the church, which are very beautiful but in an advanced state of deterioration, that may become in some cases even dangerous. The purpose of these restorations is to ensure that those who enter may find a real help in recovering the right perspective, the vertical one, in order to correctly evaluate life's situations and find valid solutions for the many material problems they deal with.
