Women for Women International
Since 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) has supported 429,000 of the most socially-excluded women survivors of war in Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kosovo, Iraq, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Sudan.
With over twenty brutal armed conflicts across the globe and unprecedented levels of violence against women, there’s never been a greater need for Women for Women International’s work to support women survivors of war.
Which is why this year WfWI has launched a program in Iraq to support Syrian and Iraqi women affected by the conflict and instability in the region, and the #SheInspiresMe campaign, shining a light on inspirational women and girls globally.
Through Women for Women International’s 12-month program, women learn about their rights, as well as key life skills (such as personal and family sanitation, nutrition, and making and connecting to social networks for emotional support). They also learn vocational and business skills to improve their access to livelihoods and break free from poverty. This combined approach is crucial as it goes beyond helping women to earn more by supporting their empowerment and ability to make decisions about how those earnings are saved, spent or invested.
