Inaugurated in 2001 by Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, after whom it was named in 2017, the Diocesan Museum responds primarily to the need to safeguard and enhance the huge artistic heritage of the Ambrosian Diocese, considered both in its specific historical-artistic value and as a testimony to the history of Christian faith and beauty.

The Museum is located in the cloisters of Sant’Eustorgio, one of the most prestigious monumental complexes in Milan.

The permanent collection, consisting of more than a thousand works from the 2nd to the 21st century, offers the visitor various thematic itineraries and many meditative insights. The acquisition of new works, restorations, the organisation of exhibitions, and the promotion of studies, conventions and conferences make the Diocesan Museum a place of intense and growing interest.
