Take home this collector's box containing a vial of water from the Amazon River. The water in this vial was collected near Iquitos, Peru. Iquitos is known as the "Peruvian capital of the Amazon" and is the largest city on earth accessible only by river or air.
The Amazon River (in Portuguese Rio Amazonas; in Spanish Río Amazonas) is a South American river, which originates in the Nevado Mismi at 5,600 meters above sea level in the region of Arequipa, Peru, flows through Peru, Colombia and Brazil and reaches a gigantic estuary that is more than 200 km wide, leading to the Atlantic Ocean - after crossing a vast geographical area defined as the Amazon basin from west to east, including the Amazon rainforest. It is a contender for the title of the longest river in the world alongside the Nile.
