With four nominations for the 1972 Oscars for Best Film, Best Direction, Best Non-original Screenplay and Best Editing, presented the same year at the Venice Film Festival, the film achieved great success and made great cultural impact. Malcolm McDowell, in the role of Alex, contributed to the film's success, ready and willing to do anything it took, even cracking a rib and hurting his corneas during filming.
