The 2009 Champions League final was played on 27/05/09 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy. The match was between Barcelona and Manchester United, with Barcelona eventually winning the game 2-0. Samuel Eto'o opened the scoring in the 10th minute and Lionel Messi scored the second 20 minutes from the end. Barcelona won a historic treble of La Liga, Copa Del Rey and the Champions League, a feat never achieved by a Spanish Club before.
This was Barcelona's third victory in the competition, 17 years after winning their first in 1992. Manchester United were defending champions, the first team to do so since Juventus in 1997. They were trying to be the first club to retain the cup since A.C. Milan 1990. It was the fifth year in a row that an English Club had contested a final.
