This auction is for a special edition of Portofino Dry Gin, created to mark the Ocean Month, entirely hand painted by the artist Giulia Tassi, who has created a work dedicated to the theme of the preservation of the seas and oceans.
This five-liter bottle of Portofino Dry Gin is an artisan gin born resulting from the passion of its founders for the suggestive village of Portofino.
Produced in an ancient Italian distillery, Portofino Dry Gin is made up of 21 different botanicals, carefully selected for their aromatic properties: lemon, juniper, lavender, rosemary, marjoram, sage, iris and rose.
Since 2023, Portofino Dry Gin has been linked to One Ocean Foundation to support its important projects related to the protection of marine ecosystems.
Giulia Tassi is an illustrator who grew up in Valtellina, surrounded by greenery of the mountains that can often be seen in her drawings. She takes inspiration from nature, especially the Alps. Her works are characterized by vibrant colors and textures. She loves warm yellow with a hint of magenta, coral red, shocking pink, acid green, turquoise, ultramarine blue and purple. She attended a three-year visual communication course at the SUPSI University in Lugano, before specializing in illustration and furthering her knowledge at the ISIA in Urbino. Since 2018 Giulia has been working as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator in the publishing, commercial and educational fields.
The bottle is entirely decorated using a brush with acrylic paint. It is a unique hand painted piece. The color is applied evenly, layer after layer, creating a contrast between the transparency of the glass and area covered by the paint.
“I live in a small village near Sondrio, in the Italian province furthest from the sea, for me the Alps are synonymous with home. Living with nature outside your door teaches you to have respect for the flora and fauna, to safeguard the territory and to be a keen observer of climate change. That's why I was happy to join the Portofino Dry Gin project in support of One Ocean Foundation. Environmentalism is always precious work and every ecosystem deserves to be protected. When I was decorating this bottle, I took inspiration some of the incredible underwater life forms of the Portofino Marine Protected Area.”
