Born in Hasselt on September 30, 1997, he is considered one of the best new generation drivers and reigning world champion. After discovering his talent at a young age, he made his Formula 1 debut in 2015 at the wheel of Toro Rosso, only to be promoted to Red Bull Racing in mid-2016 and going on to become the youngest driver to ever win a Formula 1 world championship race at only 18 years, 7 months and 15 days old. His race number is 33, but in 2022 he chose to use the number 1 as he was the winner of the previous World Cup.
