Decameron, oil on canvas 35x45

The poetic vision of Marco Cingolani (Como, 1961) is centered on the exploration of color and its use. Through color, especially red, which identifies and makes his works recognizable, the artist decontextualizes the image, stripping it of its conventional meaning and distorting it with a certain irony that characterizes his style.

In the work Decameron (2024), Cingolani refers to Boccaccio's masterpiece and Pasolini's 1971 film adaptation: the stage is populated by numerous characters, a signature style of the artist, depicted in a sort of line, waiting to take their place. In this work, as in the references, the narrative structure conceals a clear critique of contemporary society and the laws that govern it.
