He played John Faa in the film The Golden Compass (2007), the first film in the adaptation of the trilogy These dark materials, and the protagonist in House of 9 (2005) in the role of the watcher (The Watcher) and plays the executioner in Alice in Wonderland (2010) by Tim Burton.
