During her career she was directed, among others, by Sidney Lumet, Charlie Chaplin, Martin Ritt, George Cukor, Henry Hathaway, Dino Risi, Mario Monicelli, Ettore Scola and Vittorio De Sica and starred alongside Marcello Mastroianni, Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, John Wayne, Clark Gable, Gregory Peck, Paul Newman, William Holden, Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Charlton Heston and more. She has won numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, a Golden Lion, a Grammy Award, a Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival, a Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, a Lifetime Achievement Golden Bear at the Berlin, and was honored with a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. The American Film Institute ranked her 21st among the greatest stars of all time
