Carlos Sainz Vázquez de Castro, known as Carlos Sainz Jr. (Madrid, September 1, 1994), is a Spanish racing driver, active in Formula 1 with Scuderia Ferrari. He joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2010 and participated in the European Formula BMW championship, winning the Rookie title. In 2014 he won the Formula Renault 3.5 Series title, which earned him a move to Formula 1 with Scuderia Toro Rosso, alongside Max Verstappen. Throughout his first few seasons, he consistently managed to crack the top-10: seven times in 2015, ten in 2016, and nine in 2017. With four races to go in the 2017 season, he switched to Renault, where he remained until the end of 2018, breaking into the top-10 14 times out of 25 grand prix races held. In 2019 he became an official McLaren driver, earning the first podiums of his Formula 1 career: a third-place finish at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix and a second-place finish at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. He closed both seasons in sixth place in the overall standings, results that allowed him to move to Ferrari in 2021. With the Rossa, he scored his first F1 victory at Silverstone 2022, which he repeated at Singapore 2023, currently Scuderia Ferrari's only win of the current season.
To date, he has participated in 180 grand prix races and achieved 17 podiums, 2 wins, 5 pole positions and 3 fastest laps.
