The show is set in a fictional hotel called Fawlty Towers, located in the seaside town of Torquay, England. The plot revolves around the eccentric and incompetent hotel owner, Basil Fawlty, his wife Sybil (played by Prunella Scales), their diligent but often bewildered Spanish waiter Manuel (played by Andrew Sachs), and Polly Sherman (played by Connie Booth), the competent and resourceful maid.
