Vincenzo Nibali, the "Shark of the Strait", a name that refers to his origins but also to his style of racing - always on the attack - needs no introduction. With one of the most packed record of achievements in the history of cycling, he is among the few riders capable of triumphing in the three Grand Tours: Giro d'Italia (twice), Tour de France and Vuelta a España, as well as in the "classic monument", two Lombardy and a Milan-San Remo.
After recovering from a broken collarbone, Nibali competed in a a super Giro 2010, also wearing the first pink jersey of his career, which he took in the Asolo stage from Aleksandr Vinokurov, the man who would become his manager in the future.
His biggest regret remains that of not being able to win in the blue jersey. The last, real chance came in 2016, at the Rio Olympic Games. August 6 was the day of the road test with Vincenzo managing to race well taking him to the front with Henao and Majka just 10 km from the finish. But at one of the most dangerous corners of the circuit he crashed, causing a compound fracture of his collarbone. And so abandoning the dream of a medal with Italy.
At the end of his career he boasted an enviable total of 54 successes, including 14 stage victories including the Giro (7), Vuelta (1) and Tour de France (6).
Vincenzo, Sicilian by birth, is loved for his passion and creativity, the determination and courage of his racing. He has left his mark on the history of this sport and given more than a generation the chance to dream big.
