Pelé was a Brazilian professional footballer who is recognized by Guinness World Records with the most goals scored of all time with 1,279 in 1,363 games for both club and country, including friendlies.
He played for the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1975 to 1977. During his time with the Cosmos, he helped popularize soccer in the United States and brought a great deal of attention to the NASL. He also helped the Cosmos win the 1977 NASL championship.
