Gianluigi Buffon (Carrara, January 28, 1978) is an Italian footballer, goalkeeper and captain of Parma. Considered the best goalkeeper in football history, he was crowned world champion in 2006 with the Italian national team. With the clubs he has won ten Serie A championships, one Serie B, six Italian Cups, seven Italian Super Cups, one UEFA Cup, one Ligue 1 championship and one French Super Cup. With 176 international caps, Buffon is the most capped goalkeeper of all time, the most capped player in the history of the Italy national team, and the third-most capped European international player ever. With the Italian national team, he was world champion in 2006 and vice European champion in 2012. Buffon was the first ever goalkeeper to win the Golden Foot Award, and was also named the IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper a record five times. He was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest living players in 2004.

Buffon has signed the gloves on the palm, making them unique.
