The match, played at the National Stadium in Ta' Qali on 26 March 2023, ended 2-0 to Italy thanks to goals from Retegui and Pessina.
Mateo Retegui is an Argentine naturalized Italian footballer, striker for Tigre and the Italian national team. He made his debut with Boca Juniors in 2018, and then moved on loan to Estudiantes, Talleres and Tigre. On 17 March 2023 he was called up by manager Roberto Mancini, scoring in his first two games with Italy.
The Italian national team presented the new blue shirt in collaboration with Adidas. The design of a large part of the collection is inspired by marble, a natural, geographical and cultural element that represents Italy, and many of the country's monuments and cultural sites over the centuries.
