Sir Edmund Hillary was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist, who is best known for being the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain, along with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953.

After his success on Everest, Hillary continued to be involved in mountaineering and exploration, making several other notable climbs and expeditions, including to the South Pole and the Himalayas.
