The maximum bit function allows you to enter the maximum amount you are willing to spend on an item or experience, and is only visible to those who set it.
The system will gradually increase your bids up to this amount to try to ensure your victory, without exceeding your spending limit.
Once a maximum bid has been set, any subsequent bids up to the maximum bid cannot be withdrawn.
If two or more users set the same maximum bid, priority will be given to the bidder who placed the bid first.
On the current auction page, on which you have already placed your bid, you will find "Add maximum bid" which you can click on to set your maximum bid. Once done, if another user outbids you, and you have not reached your maximum amount, we will raise the bid on your behalf. We always make offers with the minimum increment necessary to put you back on top.
You can change the amount of your maximum bid or remove it using the "Change maximum bid" button inside the relevant auction. You can use this tool by going to the auction list in your profile.
You may have directly reached your automatic bid maximum if:
The reserve price is equal to or greater than your maximum bid limit
The item will not be sold unless the reserve price is reached. Then your bid directly reaches the maximum so that you can reach or get as close to the reserve price as possible
Someone else has set a maximum bid just lower than yours Your bid will directly reach the maximum if this turns out to be the minimum bid to outbid the other bidder
Someone else has set a maximum bid equal to yours Your automatic bid will directly reach the maximum, the bidder who placed the automatic bid first becomes the highest bidder.
In these cases you could instantly reach the maximum amount for your automatic bid, but it is important to remember that we will always stop at the limit you set. You will always have control of the maximum ceiling that your offer can reach.
